About Deidre Portnoy Photography
Deirdre Portnoy has lived in Wellfleet, on Cape Cod since 1978. After completing a Fine Arts degree, she worked as a photographic technician, art instructor, illustrator, photographer and videographer. She continued graduate studies and workshops in photography and video. A recipient of several grants, her work has been exhibited in the Northeast U.S.
In 2000, Portnoy founded the PhotoStory Project, www.photostoryproject.org, an international participatory non-profit organization teaching photography, video and writing skills, focusing on women and children.
The Travel Folio work, in part, is from direct involvement with the communities portrayed.
The Silver Folio work is from series of silver gelatin prints.
The Still Folio images are encounters with moments of place.
